It Begins With A Girl

What if you could counter major struggles of the developing world...

Poverty
Illiteracy
AIDS
Overpopulation
Child marriage and pregnancy

All by supporting girls?

Today, more than 600 million girls live in the developing world.

Of the world's 130 million out-of-school youth, 70 percent are girls.

The Girl Effect is a movement raising money and awareness about the strong ability that adolescent girls have to pull themselves, their families, and their communities out of poverty.

We have been blessed with so much.
We have freedoms
abilities
disposable income

We complain about going to school, skip our university classes

With the education that we take for granted, girls all over the world can wait longer before getting married, lowering their chances for abuse and HIV.

With that education, girls can begin to support themselves and their families.

Girls can inspire other girls.

And with all of these girls creating income, their communities thrive.

How does it work?

So, with our great freedom comes great responsibility. Just because we don't see the issues affecting the developing world does not make us innocent of their existence. We have the ability to help. What are you going to do about it?

Begin by raising awareness. Check out other blogs that support the issue and write your own! Use social media to spread the word.

Right now, there are advocates lobbying for changes to protect and uphold girls everywhere. Check out more information about how you can help with  The Coalition for Adolescent Girls.

And this week, buy anything from my Etsy shop and all of the proceeds will go towards The Girl Effect!

Use coupon code girleffect for 20% off!

The most important action I think you can take, though, is prayer- for developing nations where crisis is normal and poverty is the norm. We can intercede on their behalf, for both their physical and spiritual well being. Will you join me?
