oh, humility

I'm committed to myself and my roommates to pursue
the characteristic of humility. We all want to see ourselves,
through prayer and scriptures and intentional investment,
become more like Christ.
And as I thought about what I need to work on,
humility was at the top of my list.

Sometimes I'm perceived as humble
because I'm soft spoken and small
and before I know people, I'm pretty reserved.
But I know my heart.

You see, I come from a very entitled generation.
I can't blame the media or my peers because
I SHOULD filter everything I perceive through the lens of Christ.
But, sometimes, I feel myself thinking things like:

I deserve it

I know so much better than him/her/this situation

how dare you contradict me

etc etc

And that attitude absolutely does not reflect that of Christ.
So when I think those things, whether or not I verbalize them,
my heart is not aligned with His.

So, in order to combat these lies
and fill myself with God's truth,
I'm memorizing this passage

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,
not looking to your own interests but each of you
to the interests of others. In your relationships with
others have the mindset of Christ Jesus: who being
in very nature God, did not consider equality with God
something to be used to his own advantage; rather He
made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a
servant, being made in human likeness. And being found
in appearance as man, He humbled Himself by becoming
obedient to death, even death on a cross!"
Philippians 2:3-8

What are ways that you combat pride
and nurture humility?

P.S. Birthday shout out to David! Happy birthday love :)

  2. Wow, what an empowering post. Except, I don't know if humility would be at the very top of my list. It's taking me so long to actually believe and feel like I deserve things without feeling guilty. I really like this post though. And Happy Birthday to David!

  8. love this post-thank you, I too can find myself here, thinking about the things I want, conflicted about how to be humble and passionate and successful all at once. On a constant path to realign my dreams to follow or understand Gods will. I am realizing ever so certainly that no, I am not worthy of all that I am blessed with or the amazing plans he has in store for me but through his grace which he gives so richly, a humble heart is revived.
