For those of you who don't know, this summer I am back on staff at Oak Meadow Baptist Church in Austin where, for two and a half years, I served as student minister. This summer I am working with the children's ministry! It is a definite change of pace and a lot of work, but it is so good to be back to the only church that has ever felt so much like home.
One of the downsides of being away for an entire year is that I missed a whole year of my friends' lives! I wanted to be able to catch up with all my girlfriends and enjoy some time with them. What better way to do that than with coffee and dessert? And with great prices at Safeway stores (especially if you have a member card), we put together a great little Summer Sweets party for our girls on the cheap ;)
Focusing on the summery warm color spectrum, we utilized red and yellow for paper banners, straws, platters and labels to decorate.
Since summer in Texas is hot with a capital H, I opted to create cold versions of normally hot treats. Instead of a steaming cup of joe, we had:
Cold brewed iced coffee utilizing Gevalia's House Blend
with plenty of cream and flavored syrups!
Fresh squeezed strawberry limeade (for the blasphemers who don't like coffee)
S'mores Cups, served cold
Latte Pops
Chips + Dips
there were also tortilla chips, not sure where they were when I took this!
We used free printables on cardstock as placemats and party favors, which added pops of color to our table and gave the girls something pretty (and super cheap) to take home! Unfortunately I didn't get a photo of them- oops!
I'm glad I got some photos before the party started because once we sat down with our coffee and s'mores, we did not stop talking- not even to take a photo for Instagram! There were laughs and tears and refreshing conversation. We had a fabulous time at the party, sipping iced coffee and talking about dreams, fears and triumphs. I am so grateful that we all got to catch up. I am so blessed to be one of these girls, part of this community!
I love this party theme! Saw your treats on IG and knew I would enjoy them :)

What a fun party! Looks like you guys had some delicious eats! Also, I was a youth intern at a church for two summers and I loved it! It was such a cool experience to work for a church doing something I love. I hope you are enjoying being a student minister! :)
